Nordic Cycling BMX Championship 2020 - postponed

09.04.2020

2020 BMX Nordic Championships postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19 epidemic

The Nordic BMX Commission has today decided to move the Nordic Championships scheduled in Helsinki 1.8.2020 with one year. Helsinki will arrange the event 30.7.-1.8.2021. The decision also moves the organizing cycle of the Nordic Championships one year forward. In 2022 the event will be arranged in Valmiera Latvia, in 2023 in Norway, in 2024 in Denmark, in 2025 in Finland and 2026 in Sweden.

The decision was made due to the covid-19 epidemic affecting the Nordic rand Baltic region with restrictions in travelling and organizing events. The Nordic Championship is a big family event, and families need time to plan and book their trips and accommodation in good time before the event. With the current situation this is not possible. Also all participating countries have different situations with the epidemic, restrictions for different period of times and it's not possible to assure all riders an equal chance to participate in the event safely.

BMX Helsinki will work towards organizing a quality event in 2021, offering a long event weekend with official practice on Friday 30.7., the Nordic Championship on Saturday 31.7. and a Baltic Sea Cup race on Sunday 1.8.
